Since we’re lucky enough to live next door to the Cutty Sark, I decided to install this webcam so that anyone who’s interested can keep an eye on how the restoration is going.
Picture quality isn’t great but the camera was cheap and it copes fairly well in low light.
The camera is a Linksys WVC54GCA wireless webcam and there’s a cron job running every minute on my file server which grabs the image and uploads it to the webserver with SCP.
Still to do:
- Write a script that tells me if the image stops getting updated
- Make the webserver grab the image remotely rather than relying on the local file server
- Archive one out of every few images for future conversion into a time lapse film
- Clean the window
